Four areas of expertise. One way of thinking.

I consider problems from first principles and am willing to consider unconventional solutions. I work across four areas of business, connecting business strategy to day-to-day operations, the technology that enables it, and the complexities of human behaviour.

How I can help

Each engagement starts with what you need to achieve. I work with you to understand the situation, challenge assumptions, and develop clear, practical advice. The four domains below describe the expertise I draw on; an engagement will often span several of them.

I provide independent management consulting to help you set direction, make difficult decisions, and improve business performance. You can engage me to develop a strategy, review a plan, investigate a problem, or support your team in putting recommendations into practice.

  1. Strategy

Real strategy starts with an honest diagnosis of your business: what has changed, what is holding it back, and where it has an advantage. I help you identify the challenge that matters most and make explicit choices about where to compete, how to win, and what to give up.

I test the reasoning, challenge assumptions and consider how competitors, customers, and your own people will respond. The result is a coherent set of actions and investment priorities, with a clear explanation of why they should work.

    Example engagements

    • Strategy development
    • Independent strategy review
    • Red team review of a business case
    • Strategy execution support
  2. Operations

I help you improve how your business operates: how work is organised, how resources are used and how reliably you deliver for customers. The starting point is understanding what happens in practice and what is affecting performance.

From there, I work with you to design improvements your team can put into effect. That might involve simplifying a process, changing responsibilities or rethinking how different parts of the business work together.

    Example engagements

    • Operational performance review
    • Process redesign
    • Operating model development
    • Implementation support
  3. Technology

I help you connect technology decisions to business priorities across information systems, data, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML). That includes assessing your application portfolio, deciding what to invest in or retire, and identifying where new capabilities can deliver practical value.

I work with CIOs and business leaders to clarify priorities and make funding, budget, and staffing decisions. I also help IT steering committees focus on the decisions that matter, strengthen executive engagement, and communicate technology plans, trade-offs, and progress clearly so leaders can make informed calls.

    Example engagements

    • Technology strategy and CIO priorities
    • Application portfolio review
    • Data, AI, and ML opportunity assessment
    • IT governance and steering committee review
    • Technology funding and resource planning
    • Executive engagement and communication
  4. Behavioural

Business decisions depend on people, with all their competing motives and imperfect judgement. I examine how incentives, self-interest, internal politics, cognitive bias, ignorance, resistance to change, and ego shape decisions and influence whether plans succeed. Understanding why people act as they do is essential to giving advice that will work in practice.

I help you identify what is keeping a problem in place and address those barriers in the recommendations themselves. That might mean filling gaps in understanding, challenging assumptions, resolving conflicts of interest, or changing how decisions are made. The same thinking applies to the choices your customers face and how they respond.

    Example engagements

    • Incentive review and redesign
    • Customer decision journey review
    • Behavioural intervention design
    • Change adoption review

I help you see what matters, question what you've taken for granted, and decide what to do next. You get an independent perspective, clear recommendations, and the reasoning behind them — so you can act with confidence.
